Integrative oncology: questions for your oncologist
Integrative oncology considers complementary approaches alongside standard treatment, with attention to scientific evidence and safety. This section covers plant-based products and questions to discuss with your treating oncologist.
A plant-based origin does not establish effectiveness or the absence of risk. Some herbs and supplements may affect cancer medicines and cause adverse reactions. Laboratory findings alone do not establish benefits for people.
Before use, show your clinician the full ingredients, dose and list of everything you take. Ask about possible interactions and the quality of the evidence. For many plant supplements, evidence on safety during treatment is insufficient.
This information is educational and is not a prescription. Plant-based products complement standard therapy; they do not replace it. Do not delay prescribed treatment for supplements; discuss any changes with your medical team.
